Description: A greedy chancer who doesn’t care about the consequences just won’t leave Clementine alone. Even the threat of something rather unpleasant happening to him doesn’t seem to put him off blackmailing Clementine to reveal the whereabouts of his notorious acquaintance.

Trouble continues to simmer over the Ukrainian Easter holiday, with Clementine taking his mind off his troubles by turning to his old friend. Meanwhile everyone prepares for attending the traditional church service and performing at a special concert. But a barber’s ineptitude and the dramatic way a victimised pupil gets her own back on her bullying teacher serve to almost ruin the concert!

One of Sofia’s friends is surely going to have an unpleasant holiday, due to the imminent arrival of her uncouth aunts. And Sofia’s parents’ past lives and actions come back to haunt them completely out of the blue. Their lives would certainly change, but would they change for the better?

Regardless of the consequences, the chancer’s pursuit of personal gain never ceases and danger looms over Clementine in a sinister guise. Only time will tell whether his illustrious work will be able to continue?

A C Michael writes from Sofia’s perspective, the hard-working and unnoticed daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who settled in Bradford, West Yorkshire. She works hard and tries to please everyone, especially her strict father, who underestimates her intelligence and talents. But during this fateful Easter, she becomes witness to the power of the Soviet Secret Police in silencing Ukrainian Nationalists and those who want the world to hear about what really happened in Ukraine in 1933…

Clem’s War is written in a no-nonsense style, blending the humorous events that occurred in 1960’s Bradford, when the new ‘Ukrainish’ community was becoming established along with the events of recent Ukrainian history in an enjoyable and informative way.
